3 bed Houses of Character for Sale

An unconverted house of character with a courtyard, a mature garden and its original fabric intactHouses like this are becoming hard to find. Set in the quiet heart of Siġġiewi, this double-fronted village house has come through the years largely untouched. Its rooms, stonework and proportions still read as they were first intended. The façade is broad and composed. Behind it, the house unfolds around a 30 sqm central courtyard, which most of the rooms look onto. It is the house’s natural centre of light and air, and it could take a retractable skylight to make it usable all year round. There is space here for four bedrooms, each with its own en-suite and walk-in wardrobe. That is a rare level of comfort for a house in a village core, and generous room for a large family.Inside, the vocabulary of Maltese building is all here: xorok and kileb carrying the ceilings, timber beams, a series of arches, and below, a basement and a vast arched water reservoir. These are not details added for effect but the structure of the house itself, and they are what make it worth restoring well.Beyond the courtyard lies a 185 sqm mature garden, unusually generous for a village core. There is space here for a long pool, an outdoor kitchen and a life lived largely outside. A well-sized street-level garage completes the picture. The house asks for vision and commitment. It needs a full conversion to bring it up to modern standards. In return, it offers something that cannot be built new: a home of real character, with the room for a large family and the bones to become exceptional.
